What is a brief?
A brief is strictly a document that refers to the main characteristics of a specific product, project, or deliverable. Briefs are more common in the creative industry but are used in many more. It’s a summary of the main information needed to outline the project’s features, characteristics, timeline, and budget, among other information that guides a designer or project team members through the design process.
Why is creating a brief one of the most important tasks you need to do to move forward in a project in a directed and efficient way? Because it is a document that provides direction to the team working on a project about how to fulfill the goals you want to accomplish, specifically, what you want to get as the final result.
But how do you create a brief when you don’t have experience making one?
setting goals is the key.
It helps a lot when providing information to others. Everyone has an idea in their heads about what they want to accomplish. The tricky part is when you involve more people in the process who are not seeing the same image (because they are not in your head, right?), so how do you share this information?
Set your goals! And here is a little help: goals need to be SMART!
Briefs are just the beginning of the process before designs come to life. Putting everything in this document will help you develop amazing products and keep evolving your brand.
